Default Transnational Gaming Research

Hello,

I am a student at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, participating in a course designed to analyze transnational gaming in MMORPG’s. Our class has come together to create the Worldplay Research Initiative, a collaborative effort focused on the academic research of online gaming. Our class has already played Dungeons and Dragons Online and participated in transnational player interviews to get a scope of our potential research. The game that I have chosen to explore is Guild Wars. We are looking to gather data about player’s feelings and experiences with MMORPGs using a survey created by our team. Through our website, we hope players from around the globe will come together in collaboration.

If you take the survey, please take your time to think about the questions. Further, any ideas you have to further improve our research would be greatly appreciated, so feel free to leave any suggestions.

As a class, we believe in carrying out our research in an ethical manner. Our goal is to gather data on transnational play. All postings will be anonymous and will be used solely for academic purposes. We appreciate your time and effort in our research and hope you will come back.

This course is being taught by Professor Aaron Delwiche in the Department of Communication. If you have any concerns about this class, please feel free to contact him via e-mail ([email protected])

Also, please feel free to post other comments on transnational play here, or email us at [email protected]

Thanks!

Hey guys,

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our survey. We've had a fairly decent number of responses but would still love to hear from others about their experiences with transnational gaming. We have just posted our first batch of raw data from the surveys and a video created for advertising our research on our website - http://www.trinity.edu/adelwich/tran.../students.html .

We also recently had a press release on Ten Ton Hammer and we mentioned on We Fly Spitfire, and our professor, Aaron Delwiche, recently went on a podcast discussing our research which you can listen to here- http://ddocast.com/2009/11/21/episode-145.aspx (Skip to around minute 48).

Again, thanks a lot guys. Please feel free to read over our responses and post some yourself.

if you want research gaming/mmo material to analyze, google Sociolotron. I hear they are testing S2. Can't post a link, but I can lead a horse to water.

was a fun game back in the day. it should throw a mix into the variable/control aspect.
